Soma (Carisoprodol) is used to relax the striated muscles, regulating their tone, exerting an effect on the nervous system. It is prescribed for painful muscle spasm in diseases and injuries of the musculoskeletal system.
Soma (Carisoprodol) has a general sedating effect on the central nervous system, enhances the effect of sleeping pills and painkillers, has anticonvulsant activity, causes relaxation of skeletal muscles by blocking transmission of excitation in the area of intercalated neurons of the spinal cord, thalamus and hypothalamus. Soma (Carisoprodol) does not have a pronounced effect on the autonomic nervous system, does not directly affect the cardiovascular system, respiration, smooth muscles, slightly lowers body temperature.
Soma (Carisoprodol) possesses sedative properties, potentiates the effect of sleeping pills and analgesics, weakens the effect of convulsive substances that cause seizures (strychnine, corazole), slightly reduces body temperature. Soma (Carisoprodol) relaxes skeletal muscles more effectively than Meprotan.
Soma (Carisoprodol) is often used in a combination with non-narcotic analgesics mainly in order to lower the tone of skeletal muscles and reducing pain in conditions associated with increased muscle tone and soreness of skeletal muscles (lumbago, neuritis, arthrosis, bursitis, spondylosis, torticollis, etc.).
Soma (Carisoprodol) is rarely used as a tranquilizing agent since its effectiveness in case of neuropsychiatric conditions is significantly inferior to tranquilizers from the group of benzodiazepine derivatives (diazepam, chlordiazepoxide, etc.).
