Androgel (Cernos Gel)
Androgel is an analogue of the male hormone testosterone. Testosterone and dihydrotestorone are necessary for the proper improvement of sexual characteristics (genitals, hairline in men, as well as for maintaining normal sexual functioning of the body).
Moreover, testosterone and dihydrotestorone have an important influence on protein metabolism, the dissemination of lipids in the body, excretion of potassium, phosphates, nitrogen, sodium and chlorides from the body by the kidneys. All of these hormones have a direct influence on the development of striated muscles.
Androgel is prescribed for patients who suffer from testosterone deficiency as part of replacement therapy. Androgel is used for:
· primary and secondary hypogonadism;
· testicular dysfunction caused by chemotherapy, alcohol abuse or heavy metal intoxication;
· insufficient testicular function provoked by testicular torsion, orchidectomy, cryptorchidism and Kleinfelter syndrome;
· idiopathic insufficiency of gonadotropin releasing factor;
· injuries and tumors in the zone of the hypothalamus or pituitary gland, as well as after irradiation of this area;
· andropause and erectile dysfunction, when testosterone deficiency is clinically and biochemically confirmed.
The gel have to be apllied only with established testosterone deficiency, accompanied by a change in the structure and shape of the body, aggression of sexual characteristics, asthenia and a lows in libido. To date, the exact age norms of testosterone have not been established, however, when prescribing the gel, it should be remembered, that its level decreases with age.
Androgel is not prescribed for testosterone intolerance, for oncological pathologies of the prostate gland or breast carcinoma.
Androgel is not used in the treatment of children and women.
Be very attentive when you use Androgel while you have the next health disorders: malignant neoplasms; cardiovascular pathologies; kidney and liver dysfunctions; epilepsy; migraine.
It is recommended to refrain from appointing Androgel to patients who are not able to follow the recommendations for its use.
Androgel is not prescribed for infertility or erectile dysfunction, not consisting in a lack of testosterone.
Pregnancy and lactation
Pregnant and women in period of lactation should stand aback from any contact with the drug, as it can have a negative effect on the fetus.
Release form and Composition
1 sachet contains: testosterone 25mg and 50mg that are active substances; and ethanol (96%), sodium hydroxide, carbomer, isopropyl myristate, purified water – excipients components.
Dosage and administration
Androgel is for external use only.
Apply gel is applied on dry, healthy, clean skin of the shoulder, forearms and abdomen. Then, distribute it in a thin layer, not rubbing into the skin); finally, leave to dry for 3-5 minutes.
It is recommended to use the dose of 5 g of Androgel (that is equal to 50 mg of testosterone) 1 time per day in the morning. The daily daily should not exceed 10 g of gel. The dosage regimen can be changed only by increasing the daily dose on 2.5 g of gel per day. Children. Androjel is not used in treatment of children and has been clinically evaluated in male patients under the age of 18 years.
The use of Androgel may be accompanied by the appearance of some side effects. The most common: local reactions (including skin irritation), erythema, acne, dry skin.
From the genitourinary and endocrine system: changes in the prostate gland, gynecomastia, mastodynia.
From the nervous system: headache, dizziness, paresthesia, amnesia, hyperesthesia, emotional lability.
From the CCC: increased blood pressure.
From the digestive system: diarrhea.
From the skin: alopecia.
Other: polycythemia, hypolipidemia, headache.
When prescribing high doses of Androgel patiens can suffer on: irritability, nervousness, weight gain, prolonged or frequent erections.
Within admission of Androgel in the treatment of athletes, it must be remembered that it can be the reason of a positive reaction to doping tests.
